A Little History

Chobani was founded by Hamdi Ulukaya in 2005 and is now the largest yogurt manufacturer in New York State.
Hamdi, who was born and raised in Turkey, is a third-generation maker of Mediterranean foods. He started Chobani with the vision of bringing great-tasting, high-quality products made with only natural ingredients to the U.S.
Hamdi launched Chobani in 2007 with our VP of Sales, Kyle O’Brien, and a dream. The pair decided on the name Chobani after a three-hour, snowy drive to a meeting. Chobani, spelled “chopani,” is the Greek word shepherd, and is a symbol of safety and good.
The Chobani family is a quickly growing company dedicated to the production of high-quality, authentic dairy products. But just because we’re authentic, doesn’t mean we aren’t progressive. We’ve got a lot of exciting new products in the works. Check out our facebook page and our blog for the latest. Oh, and of course, follow the CHO chatter on Twitter.
